WORK TITLE
Crossing Time (2006) Presented as part of the Crossing Time Performance Festival, a performer covered in mud skipped continuously for one hour while an associate sprayed water through a simple pipe system onto the body beneath. A single paraffin lamp illuminated the action. As the mud gradually washed away, the passing of time became visible through physical change rather than measurement. Midway through the performance, the skipping rope struck the lamp, briefly igniting the surrounding space before the flames were extinguished and the action continued until exhaustion. The work considered the possibility of different experiences of time existing within the same moment, where repetition, endurance, and the changing body created one reality, while the audience occupied another.
