River Walk (2020)
A bottle of water collected from the Yongding River in the west of Beijing was carried by hand for thirty miles in a straight line to the Wenyu River in the east of the city. The journey crossed highways, neighbourhoods, demolition sites, and Tiananmen Square, where the water carrier was stopped and questioned before being allowed to continue. At the end of the walk, the water was poured into the Wenyu River, temporarily reconnecting two waterways long separated by the city’s growth and expanding infrastructure.
